Welcoming more than 1.5 million visitors each year, the Pearl Harbor Historic Sites include three independent memorials and operated by private, nonprofit organizations. Learning about history from a book or online is one thing, but to learn in person where the history happened from experts that have studied the events is transformative and makes a difference in a teacher's and a student's life. Everything from experiencing firsthand the life of a sailor to exploring the exhibits and participating in fantastic learning activities at the Education Resource Center made the history come alive for me. There is something significant about standing between the mountains and sea that witnessed the start of war for America, at the same time as standing where the war ended on the Missouri's deck. I loved the unique opportunity to step on deck, step back in time and explore such an expansive artifact with many stories to tell. I am truly grateful for all that you did to make it so impactful.
